The term ‘supported employment’ has different meanings in different countries.

In the past, it referred to people working in open employment with support. Now, the Australian Government usually describes supported employment as employment in businesses that are created to hire people with disability, and where most employees have disability, like Australian Disability Enterprises (ADE).

An Australian Disability Enterprises (ADE) is a type of employment support for people with disability who need significant support to work.
