Social enterprises are businesses that tackle social problems, improve communities, give people employment and training, or help the environment while also making a profit.

Social enterprises often hire more people with disability than other types of business. Some social enterprises pay employees less than the national minimum wage.

Some Australian Disability Enterprises (ADEs) call themselves social enterprises, but they are not the same thing.

A law that means employers can’t hire people for less than a certain hourly, daily or monthly wage.
