Customised employment
Back to the A-Z of open employment
Customised employment is when a job is made to fit the skills, interests, strengths and support needs of a person with disability. They also meet the needs of the employer’s business.
Customised employment is different to most jobs because it’s built around a person, instead of that person having to fit in with an existing job description. This approach often works well for people with intellectual disability.
Generally, someone who understands customised employment will guide you through four main stages:
- Discovery
- job creation
- support that suits what you need
- on-the-job training.
You can learn more about customised employment on the NDS website.
